Aug: Spring Training Camp

2nd – 4th August 2019 - Come and join South Africa's seasoned coaches for a 2 night 3 day spring triathlon training camp at Cradle Moon lodge just outside JHB & Pretoria! You’ll get a great block of training in before the season starts in this perfect venue that boasts great riding routes, stunning runs & a beautiful dam for open water swims.


Accommodation - Guest accommodation consists of 50 two bedroom thatched bungalows in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind. Each Bungalow has a tea and coffee station. The en-suite bathroom offers both bath and shower facilities. Heaters in the bathroom and bedroom help to keep the cold at bay. Each bungalow has a veranda on which guests can enjoy their sundowners while watching a glorious African sunset & free roaming wildlife.


Food – Included in the package are buffet style meals for breakfast & dinner. For your own account, you can also enjoy lunch & drinks at the restaurant on the dam wall or the traditional restaurant    


Swimming – Stunning dam onsite. Beginners will focus primarily on technique. All athletes will have the opportunity to discuss with coaches correct open water technique, correct pacing in the pool and using a specific threshold swim time.

Cycling – The Cradle has the most wonderful riding routes & almost all routes with a large yellow shoulder! Focus for the camp is to spend time on the bike which many athletes neglect. Athletes will have the opportunity to discuss with coaches power files & correct pacing in draft legal racing plus non drafting events.

Running – a correct technique is key. We will be doing a full session focusing on drills to improve running technique. These drills improve stability and, they improve overall running technique to prevent injuries. We also have access to beautiful trails around the lodge which we will take full advantage of

Although the sessions will be done in a group situation, we will have dedicated coaches for beginner, sprint athlete, Olympic distance athlete & long distance athlete and all sessions will be specific to your event. 


Core – What is core strength for a triathlete? This session will run through the understanding of what the core musculature consists of as well as which muscles and movements can increase core strength and stability. Triathlete related injuries will be addressed, prevention of injuries and the importance of muscle strength and stability for the triathlete. The main focus of the core session is to provide the athletes with an understanding of the correct movement technique to ensure correct muscles are loaded, strengthened and used during their own core workouts 

What is My Training Day: What started out as a small online coaching business, My Training Day has since grown to the largest endurance coaching academy in SA. MTD has 14 coaches around the country and over 400 endurance athletes both nationally & internationally. Over the past 2 years MTD has been overall club champions at Ironman African Championships, 70.3 African Championships as well as 2nd in the global rankings in 2018. Our motto “Discovering the athlete within you”. MTD has all levels of athletes from your complete newbie looking at finishing a 5km run to your Kona world Champions. MTD has a strong team ethos and each region focuses on big squad sessions making training competitive, fun & social. 


Claire Horner is a level 2 TSA coach, she has a BA Sports Science as well as a diploma in Sports nutrition. She has been racing 70.3 & Ironman distance events since 2006 with her highest placing been 2nd at 70.3 Brazil and 3rd in SA 70.3. She qualified and raced World Champs in Vegas in 2013. Claire together with husband Kent are the founders & owners of MTD.

Travis Johnston : has raced professionally for over 10 years from sprint,Olympic, 70.3 and Ironman. He was the first South African to ever qualify to race in the 5150 World championships in 2012 and he was part of the 2014 Commonwealth games squad. With national titles and wins across all disciplines he brings a wide range of knowledge and experience to his coaching career.

Kate Roberts: 2 x Olympian & silver medallist at the 2014 Commonwealth games, Kate brings with her a world of knowledge and experience. Kate’s highest World ranking was 7th.  After reaching all her racing goals Kate decided on pursing her passion which was coaching. 

Nicola Biani: was the youngest SA female to complete an Ironman at 18 years old. She has since completed 8 full Ironman events and 16 half ironman’s. She now races for Biogen cycling team. 

Dave Vaughn: is an adviser/ life coach/ athlete who loves to encourage & inspire. His speciality is working with the new science of integration – aligning your heart & head in the quest to be your best. Dave is passionate about people and their potential to achieve remarkable things through intentional living. 



Friday Day 1: 

12:00 – 12:45  Open water swim

13:00  Lunch 

15:30 – 17:00  Cycle

17:30 – 18:00  Run after bike

19:00    Dinner

20:00  Lecture – Dave Vaughan (motivational speaker) 


Saturday Day 2: 

6:30-9:30  Cycle 

9:30-10:00  Run after bike

11:00-12:00  Lecture - Jenna (Nutrition for athletes) 

12:00  Lunch

14:00-15:00  Core & running drills & technique

15:00- 16:00  Open water swimming

19:00  Dinner 

20:00  Evening fire pit and discussions


Sunday Day 3: 

6:00-6:30  Light breakfast

7:00 to 10:00  Big brick session, helping with transitions

10:30 – 11:00  Open water swim

12:00  Braai
