Recently , I took part in the Big 5 Sport Challenge in Knysna which consists of 5 events in 10 days and 1 race.
First event was the 80km MTB race through the Knysna forest which puts any seasoned MTB cyclist through their paces. I managed a 7th place in 3h39min in the Big 5 field.
The second event was the 1.85km Lagoon swim which I managed to win comfortably in 21.50. The third event was a 17km trail run from Buffels Bay to Knysna along the beach and through the Featherbed trail. I was happy that I was able to take the overall win on the day on pretty tough trail in 1h9min.
The fourth event being an MTB X, more of a challenge for me and I took 5th place, which I was pretty happy with considering my MTB skills are pretty average.
The final event was the Knysna Half Marathon which I finished in 5th place overall in a time of 1.16 and 1st Big 5 athlete.
All in all I ended 2nd overall even though I won 3 out of the 5 events, Bradley Weiss , top Xterra Pro took the overall win.
It was a really tough week of racing but really recommend it to any multisport athletes wanting to do something different.
