About:

Kent Horner began his multi-sport career as a young junior athlete in South Africa. Kent was part of the national squad that campaigned for the 2008 Olympics. Kent was a 2 time national champion and multiple national medalist across Xterra, Olympic distance and long distance. Later held a successful professional Ironman career with many top 10 results.

Whilst still competing professionally, in 2006 Kent & his wife Claire began a small online coaching business called My Training Day. What started with a handful of athletes, My Training Day grew to one of the biggest multisport coaching academies in the world that once serviced 14 endurance coaches as well as over 300 coached athletes.

My Training Day affiliated with US coach Joe Friel in 2013. Joe was one of the first Endurance coaches and is the writer of over 15 top selling endurance books. He was an excellent mentor to Kent as he grew in his coaching profession. Kent in turn has served as a mentor and educator to multiple coaches.

In 2013 the Horner’s were nominated for best small business in the Sage Pastel small business awards competition.  MTD won the African 70.3 Championship club award in 2018, the African Ironman Championship club award in 2018 and the World Championship Club title in 2019.

As a coach Kent has proudly coached the 2018 70.3 Ironman World Age group 20-24 champion. A multiple national race walking champion. His athletes have numerous podium positions in world and national championship events throughout his coaching career.

Kent is meticulous & analytical with his athletes stats and is extremely professional when it comes to coaching a complete novice just starting out or a professional athlete. Kent is excellent with our younger talented athletes and he also shows compassion and has a flair for extreme attention to detail with his older athletes. Kent is continuously researching latest technology and coaching techniques and is able to adapt his coaching methods depending on the athlete he is coaching. Kent has a sound knowledge and understanding of nutrition for athletes and regularly prescribes race nutritional plans as well as lifestyle choices. He also has had many years as a practiced bike fitter and can identify potential problems with fixable solutions.

In summary Kent is knowledgeable, passionate and above all genuinely interested in his athletes. He has a knack for making athletes believe in themselves and helping them achieve goals they never thought were possible.

Gareth Price CA (SA) multiple 70.3 athlete & Ironman athlete

“I joined MTD in October 2013, unable to swim, bike or run due to injury. I had completed 70.3 South Africa in January 2013 in a time of 7:20 and had not fully recovered from it 10months later. My goal was to be able to complete a 70.3 in under 7hrs.

Thanks to Kent, I have managed to take over 2 hours off my 70.3 time, I have raced at the 70.3 World Championships and have completed Ironman SA in close to 12 hours – something that wasn’t  even on my radar when joining MTD.

To say that Kent has worked miracles with me is an understatement. He is knowledgeable, passionate and above all genuinely interested in his athletes. He has convinced me that I am capable of more than I ever imagined and made sure that I have had fun while I’m doing it too.”

Nicole Godfrey (Multiple 70.3 and Ironman athlete)

“Words cannot adequately thank you for everything you have done for me this year! Nothing I ever say or do will be able to show you how grateful & how much I appreciate all you have done.

From being the best coaches any athlete can ever get, to awesome bosses & friends. I have never come across more genuinely beautiful, kind & generous people in all my life & anyone who gets to have you in their lives should be and feel so privileged.

All I can say is Thank you! One day I hope I can give more to you than you have already given me.

You guys have changed my life. 2015 has been rough for me in so many ways, but you have helped me get through it financially, physically & mentally. Thank you.
