IT Triathlon summer series
The Summer Series is made up of 4 sprint distance triathlons, which is a 750m swim 20km bike and 5km run. The series is held during December from the 16th to the 26th. It is always a well-supported series attracting athletes from all over the country.
I was the defending champion from 2015 and 2016 so I went into the series with great expectations and wanting to retain my title from the previous year.
It certainly wasn’t easy for me with the series not being a main focus as I was still training properly throughout the series and racing 4 sprint tri’s within 10 days does take its toll.
I was really happy with how the series planned out, managing to take the overall series win and win 4 out of the 4 races making it my 3rd summer series win in the 3 years.
The Summer Series was all part of my build up for the ITU World Cup Cape Town in early Feb. so after the series I took a couple days off and enjoyed the new year period then kicked on with the training again. Cape Town also being a sprint race, the series was ideal race training. I am happy with how the build has gone so far and looking forward to Feb.
